Highlights from the Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR) 2024

This year’s Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR) took place on June 20-22 at Scottsdale Plaza in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event was held in-person and attended by about 400 participants. Check out the highlights from the event in a four-minute video below.

This year, SYTAR highlighted the health disparities that exist for different populations and how yoga therapy can address them. Multiple presentations emphasized the topics of access and belonging in yoga therapy and framed yoga therapy as an accessible modality that is holistic, timeless, universal, and effective.

“We can and should be the standard-bearers for holistic wellbeing and therapy” Ganesh Mohan.

Some examples of the topics presented included:

– Collaborative Care Teams: Delivering Accessible, Appropriate Yoga in Integrative Settings

– Yoga Therapy: From Tradition to the Future in the 21st Century

– Toward Health Equity: Cultivating Optimal Health for All Through a Whole Person Approach

– Navigating Grief: A Holistic Approach to Health and Healing

– The Vayus as a Framework for Addressing Contemporary Issues in Yoga Therapy

– Looking Within: Understanding Power and Privilege in the Spaces We Hold

– One Woman’s Fight for Health Equity

And many, many others.

As usual, SYTAR offered a variety of morning yoga practices led by experienced therapists, networking opportunities, special-interest group meetings, and the latest updates on what’s happening in the yoga therapy field. This year, there was even an open-mike time for folks to showcase their talents beyond yoga therapy!

This year, almost half of the attendees were there for the first time, which is always exciting to see. It was wonderful to connect with other yoga therapists and hear about their upcoming and ongoing projects that bring so much good to the world and educate the general public about yoga therapy.

Thank you to the IAYT for putting it together, and thank you to everyone who stopped by our Sequence Wiz table to say hello; it was wonderful to connect with you!

Congratulations to Tonja Bennet and Elisa Sweigart on winning the Sequence Wiz raffle for ONE FREE YEAR of PRO subscription!
